Hi, I’m Winona
In May of 2020, a Michigan goat breeder contacted us hoping to surrender a goat named Winona. Winona had given birth to a kid in early May, but developed a severe case of gangrene mastitis. She was not eating and quickly began to lose weight as the infection started to take over her body.
The animal care team knew that Winona would need immediate care. As soon as Winona was surrendered to Barn Sanctuary, we took her to Michigan State University for a complete evaluation.
MSU quickly determined that she would need a bilateral mastectomy in order to survive the infection. After surgery, Winona made a quick recovery like many of our residents do after receiving the necessary care they deserve.
After her recovery, Winona was eager to make new friends. She has bonded with the staff and volunteers and Winona is kind and friendly to all. Her favorite pastime is mastering the goat playground with her goat friends.
Your sponsorship will help provide daily care, regular medical checkups, and cover any unexpected emergency care. Please sponsor Winona to provide the care she deserves!
