Barn Sanctuary received a call from Jackson County Animal Control regarding a smaller sanctuary struggling to feed its animals. The animals there were living in squalor, breeding freely, and being fed only every few days.
We stepped in to remove all 26 pigs and piglets, providing immediate care and searching for new homes. Fortunately, we were able to rehome several pigs to other sanctuaries.
The remaining pigs, a total of 16 (including 2 that had litters), have now found their forever home at Barn Sanctuary. We built a new habitat specifically for potbelly pigs, where they can now spend their days playing in their yard and basking in the sun.
Poe is the only black male piglet of the bunch.
The piglets started off as very shy and are beginning to come out of their shells as they grow. They do accept pets and belly rubs, but must be approached slowly.
