Hi, I’m Lola

Lola was 13 days old when Barn Sanctuary rescued her in March of 2019. She was surrendered to us after she developed a bad case of frostbite on her back hooves and legs.

The animal care team monitored her closely in her first few weeks, frequently visiting the vet for checkups as the skin on her back legs and hooves started to peel off. As the frostbite progressed, she developed an infection and it became clear she was in a lot of pain. We were advised to amputate both back legs to prevent the infection from spreading.

Lola had a long road to recovery after her surgery. It took months of daily physical therapy and trying a variety of prosthetics to find a mobility solution. Eventually she learned to use her prosthetics and began walking!

Lola loves human attention. In fact, we sometimes call her “Princess Lola,” as she demands frequent visits from anyone and everyone. She is playful and kind, and is always poised and ready for a photo and chin scratch. Lola has been through a lot at a young age, and she’s proven to be a determined and courageous young lady.
