Hi, I’m Frances

In the summer of 2018, Frances was one of many chicks for sale at a Tractor Supply in western Michigan. A family had noticed that she was being trampled and pecked at by other chicks in the bunch.

After convincing the manager to release her into their care, they nursed her back to health before she came to her forever home at Barn Sanctuary.

Frances is very shy at first, but it is a real sweetheart to those she trusts. She is very curious and loves to follow volunteers around while they clean her coop. She's very gentle to her friends and sometimes crawls onto their laps for a quick snooze.

Frances is what is known in the industry as a 'broiler chicken' - a bird that is selectively bred to gain weight rapidly and slaughtered at a young age. At almost two years old, Frances is already considered geriatric. To ensure that Frances stays healthy and happy, we monitor her food intake. We have the privilege of making sure that she can live a long, healthy and happy life at Barn Sanctuary.
